The name Amanda means “worthy of love,” and this little girl’s foster mom chose it with care. Amanda is a little shih tzu girl who produced puppies for four different breeders, and none of the four ever even bothered to give her a name. She came to us with what we thought was a urinary tract infection, but it did not respond to medication. Xrays showed that the poor little girl had a large bladder stone, which was surgically removed. The stone was sent to the lab for analysis and turned out to be the most common type, struvite. In order to prevent a recurrence, Amanda will have to have special, prescription food for the rest of her life, and that is why she is marked “special needs.” She can eat Science Diet CD or Royal Canine SO, and nothing else. When the other dogs get a treat, Amanda gets a few pieces of her kibble, and she doesn’t seem to mind. Amanda weighs 14 pounds, and the vet estimates that she is 4 years old. She is a friendly and playful little girl who only wants to be loved. Her days of making money for greedy people are over, and we’re looking for the right family to make her the little princess she was meant to be. Amanda has been spayed, had her immunizations brought up to date, tested negative for heartworms and started on preventative. She has also had a dental cleaning. Amanda will not be placed in a home with children under the age of 10 or with a dog weighing more than 25 pounds. Her adoption donation is $125, and she is being fostered in Birmingham, Alabama. We do approve out of state adoptions, but the adopter must be willing to drive to the foster home to “fetch” the new family member. We do not ship or transport our dogs.
