Missy
Missy is a 9 month old Black Lab mix, but most of all she is a bundle of joy! She was found trying to survive on her own this past winter as a puppy living on the streets. An FCDF volunteer spotted her and took her under his wing. He discovered that she is your typical, gentle, sweet, loyal, loving, happy & quite intelligent Lab. Missy loves chew toys, long walks, riding in the car and other dogs. (We don't know about cats, yet). We are sure that she is over-the-top crazy about children. Missy would love a home that has time to take her for walks and/or runs. She has lots of puppy energy and would make an excellent running or jogging companion. Not to mention--we are just sure she would LOVE to swim--the perfect dog for an active lifestyle. She has had all of her inoculations and was spayed on 2/26/08. This is THE dog if you are an active single or family.

GREGARIOUS GEORGE!!!
Australian Shepherd Mix(?)

George was found living on his own with his sister, Gracie(adopted). He is a young guy, probably around one and 1/2 years old. Both dogs are super sweet, well behaved and just LOVE affection. We aren't sure of their lineage, but they are the most beautiful red color.

George is to be indoor dog with a fenced yard for play. He is already housetrained! He is a small dog, weighing 30 pounds full grown. He has been neutered.

George is a super-sweet dog that loves people almost all other dogs, but he must not be allowed around cats. He wants to chase them (and practically all other small animals) and wouldn't know that he was playing too rough with them.

Prince
Prince was rescued from homelessness on August 24, 2008. He was living in the bushes at a local hospital mooching food off anyone willing to share. He was infested with fleas and ants, his fur was thin, his skin was covered with sores, and he smelled…..really bad! He came wiggling out of the bushes with his tail wagging and rolled right over on his back for a belly rub.

As 2009 begins, Prince has matured into a smart and handsome adolescent. He likes his chew toys, squeaky toys and chasing a ball. He understands that “potty” is done outside and knows all about doggie doors, but foster mom still makes sure he goes out regularly so he won’t wait too long and forget. After all, he’s a very busy boy with a lot of playing to do! Prince is also food-oriented, which makes it easy to get his attention. He knows “sit” “down” & “leave it” (that’s a hard one!), and sometimes “off.”

Prince gets along well with the other four dogs in his foster home, but deserves a home with fewer dogs where there is less competition for attention.

Prince is neutered, current on vaccinations & preventives, and even microchipped! He’s now ready for a home where he can be loved and spoiled like royalty! If you or perhaps someone you know would like to meet or consider adopting Prince, please use the e-mail address below.

Daisy, Smokey, and Blue - URGENT
Daisy, Smokey, and Blue all are well managed - they all eat together, play and sleep. Daisy has been fixed the males have not. The dogs are not on heart med. They are all are good about going out to potty but at night I put a rug down for them. During the day they are out weather permitting. They have never been running loose or chained up.

All they want is a lot of loving.

Domino - URGENT
Meet Domino, an English Pointer mix neutered male looking for his new home. Domino deserves another chance at life. Originally rescued by a family he proved that he needed a fence higher than 4 feet so they decided not to fix this problem and turned him into the shelter the day before Christmas. He sat there waiting on someone to give him a home and watched all his buddies find new homes and he was still waiting at the shelter. He is in need of a good home ASAP, and is being boarded till a home is found. He is good with other dogs, great with kids and has spent too much time at the shelter/boarded. He loves to play and run and get belly rubs. He will need a 6 foot fence or an invisible fence.

Call or email to meet Domino

Please save Domino, he's waiting on you.

Mack
Mack is the sweetest pup you will ever meet. He is very gentle, calm, and incredibly smart. He loves people, dogs, cats and water! He is a big swimmer. He loves the creek, the pool, you name it. He swims like a fish. He is working hard on becoming house trained. He is almost there, but still has accidents (oops).

He is very well behaved, he plays with his toys and doesn't chew anything else, which is good. He is getting pretty good on a leash, he loves walks. He is picking things up very quickly, he is a really good dog. Mack is up to date on his shots, 4-5 months old, neutered, and on Revolution for fleas and heartworm prevention. He is a true Heinz 57, we have no idea what breed he is. He is unique in his own way. He would be great with kids due to his sweet temperament. He is going to be a larger dog, being at 38 lbs. already. He would make a wonderful inside family dog. A fence will be required for play time.

If you would like to meet Mack, please contact Linda at the address below.

Blue
This is Blue, a male blue fawn doberman around 1 year old. He is a very handsome and quite a friendly fellow. It is hard not to fall in love with him at first site.

Blue is the kind of pup who wants to be with you all of the time. He will help take out the trash, work in the yard, clean the house, he just wants to be your shadow. Then, when it comes to the end of the day and you are watching television or working on the computer, he has his big head in your lap and look up at you with those big gold eyes.

Blue is an active dog. He loves to go for walks, play fetch, he would be a great running companion. He has a lot of energy. He isn’t hyper, but he doesn’t like to sit still either. He is very curious about everything and likes to be busy. He is an observant dog, nothing gets past him.

Blue is crate trained, house trained and picks up commands pretty quickly. He loves other dogs and is pretty good about cats, curious, but he won’t hurt them. For a dog his size, he is really gentle and a big goof ball. He would be a wonderful family dog, especially one that is active.

Blue is current on all of his shots, is neutered, heart worm negative and on heart worm and flea prevention. A fenced back yard is required for play time. FCDF requires a vet reference, home check, contract and adoption fee.

Miss Daisy
Please allow me to introduce you to Miss Daisy. She is a young, Southern Belle who is looking for a home and a return to a loving family. Seems as if "Daddy" lost all his money in the stock market crash of '08 and they lost their home. Miss Daisy was not wanted by her "trashy" relatives (thank goodness) but she was left on the streets to her own devices. What was a girl to do . . she knew nothing about such things. . . . abandoned at such a young age with no experiences on which to draw. Oh my . .

Eventually, Miss Daisy was offered temporary housing (which she accepted, very kindly). The folks who ran the housing quarters began to take notice of what a beautiful girl Miss Daisy was. She was/is young, slim, petite ears and a cute, little, pink freckled nose. My goodness . . . . Miss Daisy was a winner . . .if she had any manners at all . . . she could go to the "Ball". Lo and behold, after "speaking" extendedly with Miss Daisy, she was found to carry herself very well, appreciate people and their friends, be they two legged or four. She, also, just looooves for you to drive her around in your perfectly polished automobile on a leisurely Sunday afternoon. Who knew this perfect Southern Belle could be found in such a place.

Miss Daisy, having passed all the social graces, moved on to the just as important but highly embarrassing health issues. Everything was found to be in perfect order saving her inability to become a Mom. Given that bit of unsettling information, Miss Daisy elected to have all her vaccinations while she was at the clinic . . . . why, well just in case she might want to travel to Europe, of course..

We persuaded a dashing young man with a camera to take this picture of Miss Daisy just after one of her recent beauty appointments. Today, Miss Daisy is lunching, with her dearest friend Melody, on the back porch of her friend's home in Alabama. They are having mineral water and biscuits. She instructed me to take a message for her in case you called. She would never want to miss an interview for any position she was qualified to fill.

You may reach Miss Daisy at the address below. . . she hopes y'all are having a perfectly lovely summer. Please do not hesitate to contact her, anytime.

Gilligan
Lab/Carolina Dog
Male Neutered
est 9-10 mos of age

Hi My name is Gilligan. I was found and deserted at the BP parking lot in Heflin, AL. A nice lady saw me when she was getting gas and scooped me up to take me home. I didn't fight her, I wanted to go. I was so hot and so hungry, I was eating from a trash can and finding shade under the temporarily parked cars. I fell fast asleep in the nice lady's air conditioning on the ride home!

I am a very good boy. I love other dogs and cats and even LOVE children. I am very gentle and am well mannered. I may need a little help with leash training but I am housebroken and crate trained! I get so excited meeting new people, I just wag my whole body! Please ask about me, I would love a home to call my own.

Gilligan is UTD on all vaccines and heatworm preventative and is already neutered.

For further questions about Gilligan please contact Kristi at the first address below for an application or his foster mom Natalie at the second address if you have further questions about his personality & house manners.

CiCi
CiCi was picked up as a stray in pretty sad condition and taken to a shelter in South Alabama. She appears to be a purebred poodle. Her hair was so horribly matted that she had to be shaved to the skin. She is about 6 years old (estimated D.O.B. 4-25-03), and she weighs 7.4 pounds. CiCi is a love of a little dog, very gentle and cuddly. She is so glad to be out of a shelter and to have a real bed. But what she’d really like to have is her very own family.

CiCi had a severe case of kennel cough that she contracted in the shelter. She has recovered completely and is certainly not sick, but she does have a residual cough. The vet thinks that she may have some scarring of her trachea, and she may or may not eventually get over the cough. She does not cough constantly, just intermittently, usually when she gets excited.

CiCi is up to date on all her immunizations, is heartworm negative and on preventative. She will be spayed and have her teeth cleaned on Tuesday June 16, after which she will be ready for her new home. She appears to be housetrained but will, of course, need reinforcement in a new environment.

CiCi will not be placed in a home with children under the age of 12 or with a dog weighing more than 20 pounds. Her adoption donation is $150, and she is being fostered in Birmingham, Alabama. We do approve out of state adoptions, but only if the adopter is willing to drive to the foster home to "fetch" the new family member. We do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting this sweet baby, please email us at the address below or fill out an APPLICATION.

We do not place any dog in a home with "invisible" or underground fencing.

Megan
My name is Megan. I am a 6-year old German Shepherd/Hound mix that weighs around 50 pounds. My shots are current, I’ve been spayed, and I’m on heartworm preventative. I’m also housebroken and know basic commands. I’m very well-mannered, sweet and loving, and I adore running and playing in the backyard with other dogs and playing fetch with dog toys. I have been well-loved and cared for, but my owner recently died and now I live with her daughter’s family and their three dogs. We all get along great, but I really want a family of my own. If you think I could come live with you, please call the number below for more information. I can’t wait to meet you!!

Lazarus
Lazarus was found tied and emaciated from starvation on an abandoned piece of property near Birmingham. Since then, he has become quite the handsome man. He weighs 50 lbs. & is approximately 4 years old. Neutered, heartworm neg. and current on all shots. He would make a GREAT "best buddy" dog for someone. He loves to ride in the car, walks well on a leash, and has a wonderfully gentle, laidback personality. He loves other dogs, children, but does not need to be in a home with cats.

If you’re interested in adopting Laz, or if you can foster, please contact us.

"Murray Boy"
Murray is a sweet boy. He is a golden retriever/golden cocker mix. He is about 4 years old, 55 lbs, neutered, heartworm free, and up-to-date on all shots and on heartworm prevention. He is completely house trained! Because he has the floppy cocker ears, he does need a squirt of drying solution a couple of times a week in each ear to prevent ear infections.

He was a rescue dog that has lived with a family for 3 years as a family pet. However, one of the children was recently diagnosed with allergies and asthma and they are unable to keep him. The love him and want to find him the perfect "forever" home.

Murray loves to run and chase squirrels, but would need a nice sized fenced yard to play. He only barks if strangers approach without the owner, so he is a great watch dog. He howls when he hears sirens. Murray loves to be inside but is content outside as well. He is great with other pets and would probably love a companion. He is good with kids, but he jumps up when he wants to play, so he may not be good for small ones.

Please contact the owner at the address below if you would like to bring home this sweet dog to love!!!

OTIS -- LAB MIX
1 1/2 year old male
Neutered

Otis was found as a puppy in a trash bag in a cemetary. His rescuer who found him took him in even though she had many pets already of her own. She needs to find Otis a home where he can get more one on one attention and who can give him more than what his owner is able to provide for him at this time. She has had to downsize recently for financial reasons and is unable to keep him any longer.

He is UTD on all vaccines and heartguard. He is a very gentle, sweet laid back guy who loves attention. He is afraid of some loud noises and some men. He may do best in a low key or quiet home with a single female or older couple. He is housetrained and crate trained.

Please come meet Otis and consider him to be a part of your family. Please contact Jesslyn 205-296-6025 OR Jerry at 205-283-4725 if you are interested in meeting, fostering or adopting sweet Otis.

Chili - Special Needs
This is Chili-dog. He is a bundle of sweetness, devilishness, activity, affection - the list goes on! Chili is about 14 weeks old and weighs 14 pounds. We are saying he is an Aussie/Shepard mix. He is going to be at least medium size if not larger. He is a tall dog with long legs. However, one of his legs (and paw) has nerve damage. The vet said that the situation might repair itself as he grows. He is wearing an orthopedic boot to help with this process. His paw is already righting itself as in the beginning it was turning down and under. Hopefully, he will not have to lose his leg. If you have a heart for special needs doggies, please consider Chili. There are not many homes for any dogs these days, much less a somewhat handicap one. He is neutered, up to date on shots, and on heartworm prevention.

Chili is playful and would love to have a friend to play with (the dogs at my house do not like puppies!). Like most puppies, one of his favorite things is to steal your houseshoes, your socks, or your underwear! He likes to make panty raids on the dirty clothes basket! But while he is stealing your belongings, he will steal your heart.

Bessie - a spaniel mix
Bessie is the world's best dog in the house. She has perfect manners, gets along well with other dogs and cats, and is a great size. Daphne
Daphne is a 10 month old labrador/golden retriever mix, around 40 - 50 lbs. She likes to run, she's very strong and needs a lot of exercise. She would require space. She likes to come inside and visit once in awhile but prefers to be outside. She is potty-trained and very, very sweet once she gets to know you. Would make a good watchdog.

What Daphne needs:
Spay
Shots
A large yard (preferably fenced)
Lots of love

Daphne is a typical lab puppy - very excitable and playful. Unlike most dogs of her breed, she doesn't like to play in water. She's becoming a pretty good watchdog. She likes to chase our cats, but is not vicious with them. She knows sit and lay and will cheat sometimes - doing it before you command if she sees that you have something she might want. Plays well with older kids. She could probably benefit from obedience school to learn manners. Daphne is very affectionate - she's easy to get attached to. Maybe you'll fall in love with her as much as we have and be able to provide for her needs better than we have been able to. Perfect X-mas present for a mature child that's tough enough to handle a big dog.

Lucy & Rilo
Lucy and Rilo were almost run over by us on Center Point Parkway. Starving and desperate for food, they were attempting to cross six lanes of traffic when we rescued them.

After getting checked up and having all the necessary shots and surgery, we found these beautiful dogs a home. Unfortunately, the person wasn't aware of all the responsibilities in caring for dogs and she ended up having them boarded most of the time. She has since left them in our care and the care of others.

They are given lots of love and nourishment and look great. However, they are still being boarded at a kennel as we already have seven dogs at our house and simply have no more room.

Lucy is a boxer mix and is sweet as can be. Whenever she's happy she starts hopping back and forth on her front paws!

Rilo is her best friend. He's a lab/pointer mix we believe. Very gregarious, loves to romp around. They are very good around people and other dogs. Please make them part of your family. You will get so much more back in love from them.

LUCY VAN PELT - URGENT
Yellow Lab Mix / Female

Lucy wandered to our house on Friday September 25th. We live on a dimly lit road in a small town that is a target for neglectful dog owners to drop off their pets when they don’t want them. Tragically there is a cliff on one side of this road that is at least a 40-foot drop (tragically some neglected dogs have fallen).

Lucy was lucky to wander up to our house and is a very sweet and loving dog, SHE IS HOUSE TRAINED and is definitely an INSIDE DOG.

Lucy loves to pile up on the couch and watch ANDY GRIFFITH reruns on TVLAND. She is socialized with other dogs and plays well in the crowd. LUCY appears to be a Yellow Lab mix and is likely 3-4 years old. She loves to run, play and jump around like a happy dog should. LUCY does have an excitable streak and likes to jump when you come home but that’s probably from all the love she has to give. She just needs someone to work with her on that.

We’re trying to find a home for her so she won’t have to go to a shelter. If you or someone you know would like a companion to share those cold winter nights with, Lucy will take the job!

If you’d like to meet Lucy or if you are already in love with her please email the address below to meet her.

White German Shepard Mix
Bo is a white German Shepard mix. He is seven years old and weighs 71 pounds. He is heartworm negative and is on preventative. He has all of his shots and is neutered. Bo is easy to walk, even tempered, sweet, and is just a very nice dog. However, Bo has never met a stranger! He loves to wander and can jump a four foot fence.

Connie, a Collie mix
Connie was almost dead when she was found on a desolate road. She was a four month old puppy, suffering from malnutrition and rickets and mange. Her foster mom has had her treated for everything, and she is now approximately nine months old, healthy, spayed. Heartworm negative and up to date on shots. She is extremely playful and never sees a stranger. She loves to play with other dogs and would make a great buddy for another dog.

Anna & Shiloh
These two adorable girls had been neglected by their owner for over a year. He would keep them pregnant, refusing to spay them and rarely fed them. They would go to Piggly Wiggly where kind people would feed them or they'd forage around the parking lot and dumpster. With the help of others, Tay was able to rescue them. Anna's puppies died (she was extremely malnourished) but four of Shiloh's have been adopted. Now we need to find these angels a loving home of their own.

Both dogs are short haired. Anna, the one with the darker markings is a foxhound, possibly a mix. She's very calm, easy going, and affectionate, but she doesn't beg for attention. She loves to play with her best friend, Shiloh. Anna is the easiest dog we've ever cared for, very low maintenance. Inside, she's happy just to sit on the sofa or floor. Our vet thinks she's 2 years of age and weighs 34 lbs. Housebroken, is easy to bathe and overall just a joy.

Shiloh is a canaan mix with the cutest, most expressive ears you'll ever see. She's extremely affectionate, but like Anna, isn't demanding. Initially shy around strangers, she warms up quickly. Like Anna, she loves car rides. Shiloh is also about 2 and weighs 30 lbs. Also housebroken and no problems inside or out.

These are sweet dogs that would make a wonderful pair for someone. They pretty much entertain themselves. We see no separation anxiety or destructive habits. As our vet said, you won't find better dogs anywhere. Both girls are up to date now on all their shots and have been spayed. A $100 adoption fee and ID microchip is required for each although if they were placed in the same household it would be only $150 and the microchips.

Blackie - German Shepherd mix
Blackie is 6 years old, neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on shots. Blackie was rescued by a woman who died in January, leaving him in the care of her daughter. The daughter is 75 years old and concerned that Blackie could outlive her.

We are trying to find a good, permanent home for this sweet dog. He is dog and people friendly. He lives in his owner's backyard and has not been an inside dog so he is not housebroken. However, there is no reason to believe that he could not be housebroken if someone had the time to work with him. We do not know how he interacts with cats.

If something happens to the elderly caretaker, her family have promised to put Blackie to sleep.

Please help us find Blackie the home he deserves. He doesn't deserve to die because the only person who loves him passes on.

This dog lives in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Red
"Red" was fostered from a shelter on July 21. He is heartworm negative, has now had all his shots, been neutered and is gaining weight. Red is a bouncy, energetic, happy Boxer - probably about a year old. When he wags is tail, his whole body wiggles. He loves to be the center of your attention. Red needs someone to spend some time with him and give him the love he needs.

Kozmo
My name is Kozmo! I am a 4 year old neutered male border collie/spitz mix. I am sweet and very playful. I love to play Frisbee, fetch, and tug-of-war. I also like to chase bird shadows and laser pointers in my spare time. I am fully housetrained and cratetrained. I do not chew things or get into the garbage can. I am a very well-behaved house dog. I do not shed very much and I don't mind being shaved or groomed (as you can see in my pictures). I am up to date on all of my vaccines and vet care. I am also current on heartworm prevention and I will be bringing a two-year supply of Sentinel-brand heartworm/flea prevention with me to my new home. I would do best in a home where I am the only dog, or where my new doggie roommates are much smaller than me. I am fine with indoor cats that don't run from me. I would also do best in a home with children older than 7 years. I LOVE to play with kids, but I have a tendency to try to "herd" very small children. I would not mind being in a home with an older couple or people without children either. I'm pretty easy to please. I am a medium-size dog, about 40 pounds, so I can easily fit into any situation you need me for. If you would like to give me a working/farm dog home, I would be fine with that, too, as I have a very strong herding instinct. I am VERY smart and learn very easily. I know all basic obedience commands plus a few tricks. I love to go for walks and I walk very well on a leash. My current family loves me very much, but my other doggie roommates are not very nice to me, so my family wants me to be in a new home where I can feel safe. I can be your new pet after a phone interview/visit and a small adoption fee! Would you like to be my new family?

George
George is a large puppy of undetermined breed (Lab?/Great Dane?/Pit bull?) about 7 months old and 74 lbs.

This precious boy had found a home with an elderly man. The man said he found George on the side of the road when he was just a tiny pup. George was all alone with no Mama and no siblings. George was tiny, starving, and scared to death.

The man took George home and fed him and wrapped him in a blanket. When he began to feel better, he let little George play with his Shih Tzu. George and the Shih Tzu became inseparable (remember little George had lost his Mama). Sooooo, now, I guessing you know the end of this story . . .

Yep, sweet little George kept growing and growing and growing. . . . I guess not knowing what else to do when George became too big to play with the little Shih Tzu, the elderly man just took George to the shelter.

So George is alone, again. He has lost his Mama, his brothers and sisters, his best friend and his home in just a few short months. Life has not been looking very good for George, lately.

If you would like more info on George, please contact his friend at the address below.

Zak is an amazing dog looking for a great forever home. He is approx. 3 years old. This golden boy is sweet and gentle, loves to play ball and have his head scratched. He keeps a smile on his face and a bounce in his step. He is smart, easygoing and upbeat. Zak is a loving, faithful companion.

He is heartworm free, current on shots, neutered, and housebroken. He needs a home where he can have a fenced yard for playtime as well as be welcomed indoors as part of a family. Willie and Waylon
These are two Labrador Retriever pups I found running around on Coliseum Boulevard at the first of this week. They managed to get to a parking lot without being hit by a car and I coaxed them into riding with me. They are about 4 months old; both males; sweet of course and having a ball at my house with my dog but I cannot keep them.

I posted signs, called the shelter multiple times, radio stations, had them checked for chips and no one has come forward to claim them. So they need good homes. I have been calling them "the boys" but have now started calling them "Willie" and "Waylon".

I am taking them to the vet tomorrow for shots, de-worming, etc. and they seem to be in good health and as beautiful as they are I must find good forever homes for them.

Scarlett
Scarlett is a seven year old, solid black German Shepherd (AKC Registered). She has lived her whole life with her mate, Rhett, who just recently passed away. She is a very loving and affectionate dog who needs/wants a lot of attention. She really misses Rhett, and would love to become a part of a loving and caring family. Her owners would love to keep her, but because of a recent divorce no longer have a yard for Scarlett to play in. She has been spayed, and has already had her rabies shot for this year. She is very well behaved, and loves to meet new people. If you would like Scarlett to become a new addition to your family, please see the contact information below.

Ivory
Ivory showed up around my boyfriend's house a few weeks ago just as skinny as a rail. We think that someone dumped her off even though she had a ratty-looking attempt at a collar. My boyfriend's family can not keep her since they have 3 dogs of their own, and I have several myself. Please help us find a good lovin' home for this sweetheart.

She's very playful and has a bundle of energy. I think she would be good with a family with kids, but ones that are big enough to run with her. I would prefer her to go to a home with a fenced yard since she tries to strangle herself when on a zip line, trying to get to you to get some love. She still needs a little fattening up and a bath for sure, but other than that, she's a beauty.

Ryley
My name is Ryley a Shepherd/Flat Coat Retriever mix pup approximately 1 to 2 years old and I am very, very shy, timid and terrified of people. I was lost and couldn't find my way back home so I came across a couple of back yards that had pups in them so I stayed on one side and they on the other. One day the owner of the pups in the fence finally decided I could come in and play with his pups. I kind of got along with them except one and he started hurting me so I have been taken to the vet where I can be safe until I can find a foster home or permanent home. The lady next door had all my shots done and got me neutered and started me on heartworm prevention so I won't get them. The only thing I ask is that you be very patient with me because I am not very trusting of people. The people at the vet seem to think that I had been hurt in some way when I was a puppy that makes me very scared of people. I just need a lot of love where I can trust again. If you are interested in me please call at or email.

Mick
Either poor Mick lost his way and couldn't find his way home again or his former cruel owner dropped him off in Sipsey Swamp to starve to death!

Luckily for Mick, being an animal rescuer, I found him and took him in here at Red Gate Farm. His estimated age at that time was approximately 9 months old according to my vet. Sadly, due to the large number of rescue animals I have in residence (29), Mick has been kept in a kennel situation (with daily play yard privileges) while awaiting his forever home and owner for almost 2 years now!

Poor Mick had a recent potential adopter who has had second thoughts so we're both a bit disappointed but you can't get a good dog down (see his pic, just look at that face!).

Mick is a little bit shy to start but warms right up and loves his human caretakers attention so it's not too late for Mick to bond with someone new. Mick prefers human companionship to other dogs company so would do well in a one dog home where I am sure he would totally idolize a new, loving attentive owner. Mick's smart too! He learned to sit and shake in less than 5 minutes flat. He leashes well and rides unrestrained.

*Unfortunately, being kept in a kennel situation, it is unknown if Mick is housetrained but I am sure he'd be more than willing to learn and happy to please his owner!*

Mick is a liver & white (possible) Aussie/border Collie mix weighing 40-45 pounds. He is up to date on vacs/worming, is heartworm negative and on HW preventative. He is scheduled for neuter/teeth cleaning/post-op bloodwork and urinalysis tomorrow so he'll soon be ready to go to a new home!

Adopt fee, application, vet/3 references and homecheck for proper containment is required.

Needed: Great home or homes for five sweet puppies
I need to find a home or homes for five very sweet but active puppies.

All are solid black and four months old. They have a great Mom, Yellow Lab (Trained as a duck hunting dog for a short time), that got caught by a Rottweiler. The puppies have been wormed and given first round of shots. I will be happy to bring the puppies to anyone willing to give them a good home. There are two males and three females. I REALLY NEED SOME HELP, THESE ARE OWNED BY MY SISTER-IN-LAW AND SHE CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP THEM NOR CAN SHE GIVE THEM THE CARE AND LOVING THAT THEY NEED.

Rescue dogs' owner died (Tessa and Laila adopted!)
My late husband rescued and cared for a number of dogs, over the years. Each dog came with a sad story of abandonment, abuse, injury, sickness, owners who could no longer care for them, etc. In his absence, there are many animals now missing his loving care.

Several of these dogs shared my husband's office space, and all have exhibited good personalities and love of people. For this reason we feel they would make excellent family pets, and would shower a new owner with the gratitude and love that only a rescued animal can give.

All dogs have been spayed or neutered, and are current with all shots, medications, etc. A fenced yard or an owner who is willing to walk on a leash is needed.

The dogs include:

  • Angel, a very blond, golden retriever, female
  • Tessa (Adopted!), German Shepherd, female
  • Laila (Adopted!), German Shepherd mix, female
  • Mama Dog, black chow, female
  • Purdy, (found near Lake Purdy) German Shepherd mix, female
  • Nikki, white/blond golden mix, female (possible White German Shepherd)
  • Blue, hound, short hair, Staffordshire Terrier mix, male

Since these dogs were rescues, we don't have any detailed information as to their past; therefore, we've made educated guesses as to their ages and breeds, with the aid of the vets who have seen them.

It is our hope that you will help us find LOVING HOMES for these dear animals.

Interested parties may contact AWAG at the address or phone number below.

We will be happy to answer questions, or schedule a visit to meet one or more of these great dogs.

Millie-Yellow Lab mix
Poor Millie was rescued after she was having puppies under a BFI container and the container was moved, puncturing her eye and killing all but one of the puppies. That was over a year ago. Her eye has healed (although she does not have all of the sight), and she has been spayed and loved to develop her trust. She is a very affectionate dog that gets along very well with other dogs. Her foster mom says that she is the most loving dog in her home. She is house-trained and loves to be in the house or the yard with no vices. She does not get along well with cats, however, and she is protective of her yard, so she would not be a good pet for a home with small children. She is about three years old, heartworm negative, and up to date on shots. She weighs about 35-40 lbs.

JJ - Weimaraner mix
Weimaraner mix
approx 4 years old
Have you ever seen a sweeter face??? JJ is looking very handsome in his Christmas hat! He is doing great. The only complaint I have about him is he HATES baths. He is a joy to have in the house. A friend gave him a holiday sweater...as you can see from the pics he looks very handsome wearing it! He also went to the baseball field yesterday for the first time. He was keeping up with the other three boys running around. Oh- he is no longer AKA "skin and bones" he is now "fat lips". Just a sweetheart!

JJ is not good with small breed dogs, but is fine with larger dogs – there are 3 dogs in his foster home. He definitely needs to be with another dog. He does NOT need to be with kids or a really hectic household.

Happy and Puppy

Help! Our owner died. We have been at the vet's for 3 years!

Two great dogs need a good home. Happy is a Beagle–Jack Russell mix and Puppy is part Australian cattle dog. They are about 8 years old and have been together all of their lives. They must stay together.

Happy is a Type-A personality always ready to walk, run or play. Puppy is much more laid back, but is a willing participant in most activities.

Their previous owner had to give them up due to health and financial problems. She recently passed away. They have been living at the vet's for almost three years. They visit with a family friend several times a week for exercise and fresh air, but cannot go there to live. They cannot go there permanently because there are cats who run that house, and Happy and Puppy firmly believe that cats are for chasing. They have not been around small children in the past, so it is unknown how they would respond to "little people".

They must have a fenced yard to play in, and regular long walks would be very nice.

They are in good health and their shots are up to date.

Nicky - Urgent
Nicky is a gorgeous mix of Golden Retriever/Lab around 2 years old looking for her "forever" home. She is living with a nice couple who inheirited her from a family member, but they can not keep her much longer.

She is very loving, great with other dogs, loves children and is just an all around wonderful girl. She also knows basic commands. A fenced yard would be great for Nicky, since she loves to run and play.

Flavia
Flavia is an absolutely gorgeous ball of cuddly fur! She has beautiful markings and loves to just sit with you. She would be a great companion dog and appears to be housebroken. She rides well in a car and loves to "hang-out" with her foster mom. We think she is around 3 years old,and she has been spayed, is out to date on shots and is on heartworm preventative and flea control. She appears to be a Great Pyrenees or St. Bernard mix, along with a Retriever, perhaps. She weighs 65 lbs. She is waiting for pats from her forever owner.

Human Daddy passed away.......
BELLE AND LUCKY

Although Belle and Lucky are not littermates, they have been together since they were young puppies. They are both a little over three years old, have been spayed and neutered, and all their shots are up to date. They both also have micro chips. Their owner saved them from certain death and loved them a great deal. They have had a wonderful life and adored their owner.

Their lives were thrown into turmoil on August 23rd of this year, when their owner, who was only 35 years old, passed away suddenly of a massive heart attack. Since then they have been in a kennel, and are in desperate need of a kind and loving home.

Belle is a black lab, while Lucky is a mix of lab and rottweiler. Both are wonderful dogs, very affectionate, but are traumatized by their ordeal. They need to be adopted together and by someone who will spend lots of time with them, have a fenced in yard so they can burn off their energy, and be inside dogs.

Application, vet/personal references, home check and secure containment required. Adopt fee is cost of spay prior to placement (approximately $125 mol). Katie is up to date on vacs/worming and heartworm negative.

Patches and Cookie - Special needs dogs
Hi - I'm Patches. I'm a female Dalmatian Beagle mix. I am deaf but I have a buddy, Cookie (she's a Labrador) who helps me out. You've heard of seeing eye dogs? Well, Cookie is a hearing guide dog for me. When we go outside to stretch our legs and our foster mom calls us, Cookie hears for me. She gets my attention and leads me to where I need to go.

Our foster mom rescued us from wandering the streets and we're so lucky she found us and gave us a home. But now, due to illness, she is having to take care of her mother and it's really too much work to take care of her and us, especially since her mother's condition won't allow her to be around animals.

We need someone to give us a forever home. We're told that we're both sweethearts. If you can give me and my hearing buddy a new home, please call our foster mom at the number below.

Kayla
Kayla is a sweet, golden retriever mix female around 7 years of age. Rescued under horrid conditions, this special girl is looking for a new home. Kayla is very gentle, and loves all people she meets. A little shy, Kayla is very well mannered and very smart. A home that would provide her with endless supplies of food, water and love would be her dream. When she was found, she had no food, water, or shelter. She holds no grudges, and is so people friendly, that it is impossible to not fall in love with her at first sight.

Kayla is up to date on shots and is heartworm negative.

Update
Kayla is still waiting on her forever home. She has been in foster care now for a year, and is hoping that someone will adopt her and give her the love and attention that she so deserves. She is a big, cuddly teddy bear, and is waiting on you :)

A fenced yard is a must for Kayla.

If you would like to meet Kayla in person, please call or email.

Spaniel/retriever mix and her puppies (puppies adopted)
There are four puppies (adopted)- two males and two females. They are fat black, balls of fur with rather short tails.

- The first picture is of Flavia. She is the only one with some brown trim.
- The next picture is of Flavia and Monie the other female.
- The third picture is of Joe. He is the most outgoing puppy, and he has a little white in his chest.

The boys are all black, one with curly hair and one with straight hair. The puppies are 6-7 weeks old, very healthy and ready to go to their "forever" home. They have had their initial puppy shots and have been wormed. Only homes with fenced yards will be considered. the mother weighs about 25-30 lbs and the father is "unknown". The mother is a very smart, resourceful dog, and I think these puppies will make great pets.

The mother dog, Sophie, is also pictured. She is young, about a year old, and has been mistreated. It took me 5 months to catch her, even though I was feeding her everyday. She is very pretty and trusting to me, now, she requires patience and understanding. She fed these youngsters with just her milk until they were five weeks old, and they were really fat and healthy when they finally came out of the hole under the building where she was keeping them. She deserves a really special home.

Update
Sophie, the momma dog, is now available for adoption. She has been spayed and is now heartworm negative.
